The Benefits of Joining Professional Associations
A professional association is an organization formed to unite and inform people who work in the same occupation. There are many advantages to joining associations.
Professional associations in Otolaryngologists- Head & Neck Surgeons represent a collection of professionals who work towards the common goal of promoting and improving the medical profession they are associated with. These healthcare organizations champion their members by providing resources, information, and opportunities they might not have had otherwise.
Members are bonded together as they advocate for their peers and share their challenges and triumphs with one another. Joining an association provides members with a competitive advantage because they become active, informed members of their industry.
Many association members who lead busy professional lives depend on their association to brief them on important industry trends, new legislative rulings, and advances in technology.
ACADEMIC MEETINGS
Our first Academc meeting was staged in November 2011 at the Knutsford Court Hotel. We had 55 attendees and we examined conditions affecting the pranasal sinuses. Since then, we have held two meetings annually – the first in June which is a Residents’ Symposium and the other in Novemeber which is for the education of all doctors and nurses. Our November meeting has grown, regularly seeing between 170 and 200 attendees. Since 2015, we have also incorporated a Workshop in our November meeting, which serves to hone the skills of our ENT Consultants and Residents in training.
